OIA Sports Officials Earn State Awards
OIA officials Matt Sumstine, Thomas Yoshida and Janet Allen were among 11 people named as National Federation Officials Association award winners for the State of Hawaii.
The awards were presented by the National Federation of State High School Association through the recommendations of the sport coordinators of the Hawaii High School Athletic Association.
Sumstine was the referee of the Division One championship game between Kamehameha and Leilehua in December. Last year, he was named the head referee in the HHSAA Division Two championship game when Aiea defeated Damien. Yoshida officiated his third boy's state basketball championship game last February when Iolani defeated Kahuku while Allen officiated the HHSAA girl's state championship game between Punahou and Moanalua.
