VARSITY FOOTBALL HEAD COACH/PROGRAM DIRECTOR


Kalani High School, a well-respected high school with a strong commitment to academic and athletic excellence, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Head Football Coach to lead our football program.  With a tradition of excellence, both on the field and in the classroom, we are looking for a leader who embodies the values of integrity, teamwork, and perseverance, and who can inspire and develop young athletes to achieve their fullest potential.

DESCRIPTION: 

Kalani High School Athletics is a cornerstone of the student experience, embodying a philosophy that aligns with the school's educational mission. It motivates student-athletes to excel individually, contribute positively to their team, and embrace the spirit of true teamwork, asserting that these qualities characterize success. 

With support for over 54 teams across more than 19 diverse sports, the Athletics Department at Kalani High School is a spirited community of competition and growth. The coaching staff plays a pivotal role not only in the athletic achievements of the school but also in the holistic development of our students, underlining the significant impact of the Athletics program on their educational journey. 

QUALIFICATIONS
 
● College degree preferred, with at least three years of experience and a track record of leadership in a successful interscholastic or club program as a head coach, or other significant leadership experience in building and maintaining a successful large school or club program. 
● Background in teaching/education preferred, with experience working with adolescents. 
● Substantial knowledge of the game as demonstrated by developing comprehensive practice plans, offensive, and defensive schemes, implementing offseason expectations for student-athletes, and practical and contemporary teaching/coaching practices. 
● Knowledge of coaching, including competitions, practices, and strength and fitness conditioning. 
● A student centered philosophy and a commitment to academic integrity with the knowledge and ability to ensure student academic success and a professional demeanor that is supportive of the personal success of each student-athlete. 
● Demonstrated understanding of the value of athletics and competition at the high school level and a track record of successful communication and modeling of these lessons and values to student-athletes. 
● Strong organization skills, managing rosters, schedules, transportation, team and game schedules, equipment inventory, and facilities. 
● Demonstrated ability to keep winning and losing in perspective, show discipline and self-control, maintain concentration, cope with pressure, and adapt to changing situations. 
● Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, coworkers, students, parents, media, and the public; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing to parents, media, and administration, and managing conflicting opinions. 
● Ability to communicate and model intangible qualities of athletics, such as a positive attitude and outlook, energy, enthusiasm, concern, humor, resiliency, and team and school loyalty to multiple constituents. 
● Ability to hire a well-rounded coaching staff that inspires athletes to do their best. 
● Ability to communicate clear expectations to the coaching staff of their roles and support them in meeting those responsibilities. 
● Demonstrated willingness to commit the time necessary for the preparation and full engagement of coaches/players, attracting athletes to the program, communicating with athletes, parents, and the community, assessing individual and team performance, and keeping the equipment and facilities In good condition. 
● Successfully demonstrated the highest professionalism, integrity, and ethics with students, administration, assistant coaches, athletes, parents, patrons, fellow teachers, and media. 
● Demonstrated commitment to make a difference in the lives of our youth and a positive contribution to the school community. 

OTHER POSITION REQUIREMENTS 

● Out of town, overnight travel may be required for interscholastic athletic contests, meetings, or conferences. Afternoon, evening, weekend, and holiday work schedule. 
● Valid Hawai'i driver's license and good driving record. 
● Satisfactory criminal history background check. 
● Completion of NFHS Coaches Certification, NFHS Concussion Management Certification, NFHS Heat Awareness Certification, and NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest Certification.
