Defending
state high school boys champion Rudy Cabalar of Campbell High School will be
looking to garner an Oahu Interscholastic Association title at the public
school league’s championships on April 18th and 19th at
Makaha West Golf Course.
Cabalar
finished fourth in last year’s tournament and says he desires to win an OIA
title.
“I
let the title slip out of my hands,” Cabalar said at the conclusion of last
season’s OIA tournament. “Hopefully this experience will teach me to remain
hungry and become a better golfer.”
Battling
Cabalar for the OIA crown will be two-time defending OIA champion Tyler Ota of
Moanalua. Other leading golfers are Ryan Kuroiwa of Aiea and Mililani’s Jonah
Fonacier. Moanalua is the heavy favorite in the boys team competition led by Ota,
Sueng Jae Maeng, John Oda and Jared Flores.
Eimi
Koga of Moanalua has been the leading golfer on the girls side in the OIA this
season. She is the defending champion and will be challenged at this season’s
league tourney by Loeece Magsanide of Campbell, Kalaheo’s Monique Ishikawa,
Kapolei’s Sydney Maluenda and Pearl City’s Samantha Balboa.
Moanalua
is the heavy favorite in the girls team competition led by Koga, Elizabeth
Shishido, Ashley Yen and Christine Kobashikawa.
