Nanakuli Dominates at January 2 Regatta

At the second event of the Oahu Interscholastic Association paddling season, Nanakuli dominated the competition to capture wins in the Varsity Boys West Division one-mile race and the Varsity Mixed Division one-mile race on January 2 at Keehi Lagoon.
Nanakuli recorded the best overall time of the day in the boys race, winning in seven minutes and 59.46 seconds. The members of the winning team included Shannon Palmero, Jared Ku, Nolen Kekawa, Daniel Rzonce, Darius Kawaauhau and Dayne Van Geison.
In the mixed race, Nanakuli won in 8:52.14. Dylan Kuewa, Keisha Bacos, Roxanne Fuller, Daniel Rzonca, Nohonani Bumanglag and Dayne Van Gieson were members of that team.
In the closest race of the day, Kaiser edged Castle to win the Varsity Boys East Division one-mile race with a time of 8:24.30. Castle's second place time was 8:25.40. Kaiser’s team consisted of Christor Aboul, Justin Dietz, Nainoa Gumapac-Mc, Blane Kaakimaka, Andrew Ordeaker and Miles Thomas.
Kapolei captured the Varsity Girls West Division one-mile race in 9:38.71 beating Radford, who finished in 9:56.40. Courtney Napolean, Wailani Inay-Kekahu, Sirena Reyes, Moana Toomalatai, Sydney Inay and Melaniw Say were members of that team. Kailua was victorious in the Varsity Girls East Division one-mile race with a time of 9:35.16.
In another close one-mile race, Kalaheo secured first place with a time of 9:00.81in the Varsity Mixed East Division event. Members of that team include Kaoru, Torin Luis, Courtney Wemple, Ameet Argov, Barak Argov and Jenna Cates.
The next OIA Regatta event takes place on January 9th at 12:30 p.m. at Keehi Lagoon.
